The short-lensed birdnut first saw this bird last week when he surveyed a small grassland just behind their office but didn't get a good and close enough shot. This morning, the birthday boy was feeling lucky and decided to visit the place in the hope of getting a close and good enough shot of this small grassbird. Thankfully, his wait under the heat of the rising summer sun was well rewarded. Now if only the perch was a more natural one. Bright-capped Cisticola (Cisticola exilis) General Santos City, South Cotabato, 12 April 2009 D40, 70-300 VR, 300mm, ISO 200, 1/250s, f/8, Manual Exposure, Available Light, Manfrotto 190XB/484RC2 Support This bird would perch on the rusty barbwire fence, make some calls, and fly back into the grass. Each time it flies back to the grass (and I was hoping it would land nearby), I move a few steps closer to the barbwire fence, meter the scene, cover my head with a sniper's veil, and wait for it to return. An interesting thing I observed on this bird it that it makes three (3) different calls. Thank you for viewing.

Whatta shot! Happy birthday, Mark!
Sayang. Spent Holy Week in Davao visiting family. We had the option of driving to Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat for an overnighter but decided against it at the last minute. Had I known you were in GenSan, we'd have done it and I could've taken you to the Baras (Tacurong) Bird Sanctuary.
If you are mobile and want to go there on your own, just PM me for directions!
BTW, on the road from GenSan to Marbel & Tacurong is a great Chicken Inasal place called "Nady's". Cheap, tasty, and juicy.
