Dear all, I am Thai people who went to bird-watching in Philippine on mid April 2009. We went to Subic, Candaba swamp, Makiling Mt, so many birds our group found. Many swifts made problem to us because we were not familiar with Philippine swifts. One of those, the questionable swift was photographed from Hill-394 trail while I was trying Purple Needletail. It was quite smaller than the purple but flying high as same level. Could anyone please identify? Perhaps, it might be house swift, but for me it looks like White-throated Needletail which I have never heard from Philippine bird list. Thank you, Taweewat

Welcome to PBPF, Taweewat! It doesn't look like a House Swift nor a Purple Needletail to me either (see photos below). I'll post your ID inquiry in the e-group of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines so our taxonomy experts can take a look at it. House Swift: Purple Needletail:

Hi Taweewat,
Mark Wallbank, Des Allen and Ivan Sarenas of WBCP all agreed that it's indeed a White-throated Needletail.
As this could be a new country record, could you please email the Records Committee of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) the particulars of the sighting/photo-capture (date and place of sighting, no. of birds seen, name of birders present, and other pertinent data)? You can email your report to Mr. Arne Jensen ( aej@pldtdsl.net ).
Congratulations!
Romy

An amazing gallery, especially of the Subic birds! I especially like the photo of the Dollar Bird. This bird is always present in Subic. I had tried photographing it but the colors did not show well because of the backlit. Subic is one of the easiest birding places in the Philippines.
I have no problems with your English. I can understand you real well. I like your journal. Congratulations on the new record of the White throated needle tail. Thanks for sharing.
Lots of cheerps, Lydia
