These are beautiful jewels of the Philippine forest. The theme is perfect. Congratulations to all those who unselfishly contributed their very best pictures to help promote the conservation of our forest and bird habitats. Well done. Mabuhay.

Just a small clarification on the venue. It's the Museum of the Filipino People (former Finance Building) which, I think, is somewhat of an annex to the National Museum. Wanted to mention this because, since we've been talking about "National Museum", I had, all the while, thought it would be at the former Congress Building, a photo of which is the background of the inset in our site advertising the exhibit. A pretty long walk if you go to the wrong building. He-he, just realized I'd joyfully walk miles in a forest but a city block is arduous.

Thanks folks for the comments. I'm posting here some snapshots from last night's opening ceremonies. To those who were able to take photos last night, please feel free to post your images too. ______________________________ BIRDING IN A MUSEUM. BIRDNUTS SANS CAMERAS. The exhibiting photographers pose for posterity with WBCP President Mike Lu (extreme left), a rare view of a group of Certified Birdnuts seen without their cameras and humungous lenses. From left to right are Mike Lu, Tito Arbatin, JP Carino, Martin Alvendia, Ding Carpio, Romy Ocon, William Lim and Rey Sta Ana. Not in the photo are Neon Rosell II and Nicky Icarangal. EXHIBIT ATTRACTIONS. Aside from 46 big prints of forest birds, the exhibit also features a collection of preserved bird specimens, a display of a mannequin in full birding gear, and a video showing of Ibong Gubat (a 30-minute short film on some Luzon forest birds by Romy Ocon). [40D + Sigma 18-200 OS, 18 mm, 1/20 sec, f/5, ISO 1250, hand held]

COUNTING KINGFISHER FEATHERS? Exhibit guests marvel at the full color display of forest kingfishers that shows amazing feather detail even when viewed up close. [40D + Sigma 18-200 OS, 28 mm, 1/25 sec, f/6.3, ISO 1250, hand held]

KINGFISHERS, DEAD AND ALIVE. The National Museum's display of kingfisher specimens provides an interesting measure of the relative sizes of these colorful birds. Insets for comparison are photos of the same species taken in habitat, in full living color. [40D + Sigma 18-200 OS, 18 mm, 1/25 sec, f/8, ISO 800, hand held]

So sorry I was not able to attend the opening of the exhibit. I was on my way to the venue but the rains suddenly poured down heavily while I was along Commonwealth avenue, I was forced to turn back home. But I will be dropping by one of these days to see for myself the pictures.
Congrats to all!

But I will be dropping by one of these days to see for myself the pictures. Congrats to all! Yes it was a massive traffic jam last night, Alain. I was at the corner of Roxas Blvd and Burgos St. at about 6 pm, and I thought I could make it to the opening. It took me an hour to negotiate the last 200 meters from that corner to the Museum of the Filipino People. So Ding got his wish, he was the one who delivered a speech in behalf of PBPF. ;D I was watching rey mysterio with my son. Aside from the museum, where can one see the "Ibong Gubat" video? It's not yet publicly available as it's still a work in progress, Edu..... it was rushed for showing just for the exhibit. ;D
