Hi, new birder here. I met Tina at NIGS during the last guided tour.
Perhaps you can help me identify two big wading birds I saw at twilight at a Coastal Road lagoon near the mouth of the Paranaque river yesterday. Both were feeding on the mud at the edge of the mangrove forest in the company of little egrets, common moorhens, white-breasted waterhens, a black-crowned night heron and a white-browed crake. I don't have a picture of them though and I can't seem to find them among your picture guides here.
The first one looked like an oversize bittern, a bit larger than the night heron beside it, yellow-green legs with a chequered wing pattern of tan and dark brown or black, like that of a great bittern, but with a preponderance of white spots on the edges. At first I thought it was an overgrown yellow bittern, but the underwing is white or light. I compared it with your pictures of an immature night heron, cinnamon bittern and striated heron, but they don't really match. Any suggestions on where to look for comparisons with online photos?
The second is an all grey or tan, about the same size as the first bird. I only saw it fleetingly before it jumped into the trees. I was comparing it with your photos of purple or grey herons, but no match. The head actually looked like that of a duck, except the legs are long like the egrets beside it.
Cheers, Cecil

Here are some photos of an immature Black-crowned Night-Heron. And one of a Little Heron: Any resemblance to what you saw?

. Am little confused about this type of bird. Perhaps you can help me. Captured in the Visayas. Where in the Visayas was this image captured? It looks like a Drongo Species (Hair-crested Drongo (Dicrurus hottentottus palawanensis) but the Hair-crested Drongo seems to be endemic to Palawan only. Can you be more specific about the location and date of capture?
